3 Exposure in living organisms
Another important issue is the analysis of exposure in living
organisms, or the quantity of those substances in the living
body (body burden).
Substances studied, chosen in view of the past and present
industrial production in Japan as candidates to be specified in
the final guideline, included bisphenol A (BPA)1,
chlorobenzenes2,
4-hydroxybenzoates, phthalic acid esters3,
benzopyrene4, PCBs5,
chlordane6, and tributyltin
compounds7. Some researchers in
the Working Group have also conducted their own studies. Major
findings obtained in these studies are described below.
The study plans were examined and approved by the ethical
committees of the participating organizations. The subjects were
informed of the protection of human rights and personal
information, as well as of advantages and disadvantages in
participating in the study before consent. For autopsy, the same
information was presented to the bereaved. The body was used
only if a written consent of the bereaved was obtained. (See
Literature 5)
The human genome and gene analysis was conducted according to
the Ethical Guideline for Human Genome and Gene Analysis
(Ministries of Education, Sports , Science and Technology, of
Health, Labor and Welfare, and of Economy and Industry, Mar. 29,
2001). |
