  3. Guideline for determination of endocrine disruptors in biological samples
Part 1: General testing

1. Introduction
The concentrations of endocrine disruptors in biological samples are generally very low. In addition to requirements on analytical instruments and environment, a certain level of skills in the analytical procedure is indispensable to obtain reliable results. The present guideline summarizes general precautions for determination of endocrine disruptors in biological samples.
Procedures other than described here may be used insofar as the reliability of the results is ensured.

2. Acquisition, transport and storage of samples

  1. Do not allow the sample to contact with PVC gloves. Use latex gloves if necessary.
  2. When using gloves, perform a blank test to confirm that they do not contaminate the sample.
  3. Use sampling devices made of stainless steel or glass after confirming that they do not contaminate the sample.
  4. Use sample containers made of glass or fluorinated resins. Perform a blank test beforehand to confirm that the containers do not contaminate the sample.
  5. Obtain an amount of sample that allows at least two analytical runs and divide into two lots for repetition. To assure the uniformity of the sample, an as large amount as possible is desirable.
  6. Cool down the sample and store in a dark place.
  7. Use sample containers made of glass or fluorinated resins for transport and storage of the sample. Perform a blank test beforehand to confirm that the containers do not contaminate the sample.
