Section 4 Research details

In the medical field, conventional “personalized medicine” can be advanced to “precision medicine” by hierarchizing huge analytical information from -omics analysis, such as genome information, or therapy data. In the food field, it is possible to make genetically modified organism (animal or plant) precisely designed by genome editing technology. However, because it has not been thoroughly studied as to how to lead to safety evaluation in terms of toxicity and allergenicity by integrated analysis based on large-scale data, such as genome data and transcriptome information, obtained during the development process and thereafter of such new type genetically modified organism, combined with other data, Division of Biochemistry (DoB) will promote necessary studies. In the field of healthcare, as the utilization of AI to the processing of large-scale data, such as the genome information, is being discussed, DoB will undertake research to lead the use of AI to health impact evaluation and safety evaluation in the fields of medical and food.
In the research of plant origin natural toxin (higher plant, fungi) risk, because prevention of health hazard by toxic component of higher plant and fungi, and establishment of identification/confirmation method for cause-finding are important issues, DoB is undertaking development and implementation of the method. Furthermore, DoB will clarify new biological function and mechanism related to diseases by making effective use of library of natural biologically active substance and compound together with mutant cell or genetically modified animal made by modifying various genes. DoB plans to use the results thereof to health impact evaluation of people.
