【What we consult about】
Prior to filing an application to the Consumer Affairs Agency (CAA)
—for the designation of a food additive
—for the revision of existing use standards for a designated food additive
to make it possible to use the additive in foods in which it is not currently permitted,
The applicants are encouraged to consult with the experts in the FADCC
on this issue for smooth evaluation of an application.
The FADCC gives advice on
◆ Preparation of documents for the filing and may include following
information:
・Origin, history of the discovery, and the status of its use in
other countries
・Physicochemical characteristics and compositional specifications
・Effectiveness
・Safety and amount of estimated-consumption
・Standards for use
・Other general matters concerning application for designation
and
◆ Confirmation whether drafted documents are in place.
However, the FADCC does not offer any confirmation regarding whether the
quoted information is correct.
In addition, when additional information is required by the Food Safety Commission
in the Cabinet Office (risk assessment body for food safety) in the process of risk assessment,
the FADCC may gives advice on
◆How to collect and compile the information.
The FADCC gives advice on application for food additive designation or
the revision of
standards for use, based on actual cases and experience.
Please note that FADCC’s activity does not guarantee that no additional
information is
required by the commission.
Please be aware that unexpected additional information may be required
if new findings
emerge after our consultation.
