The major mission of this division is to investigate the effects of novel foods and chemicals on biological functions, including metabolism and immune functions and apply the findings to safety and efficacy assessments of these substances. For this purpose, we are developing the novel methods depending on molecular biology and cellular biochemistry. This division is also engaged in the establishment of standard analytical methods for novel substances contained in newly developed foods including genetically modified foods and for allergenic food materials. Furthermore, this division is engaged in the management of RI facilities.

Examining the biological effect of food substances and drugs using cultured cells.

Analysis of allergic substances in foods are studied using ELISA.

Analytical methods of genetically modified foods are developed.

A liquid scintillation counter is used for the detection of radioactivity to investigate the influence of drugs and food substances.
