For ensuring the safety of foods in Japan, development of analytical methods for residual pesticides, veterinary drugs, radioactive materials, dioxins, natural toxins, heavy metals and so on, are studied, and other research related to the safety of foods are also conducted. The developed analytical methods are utilized as the Japanese official method in the quarantine inspection center, the local government research institute and the private inspection institute and so on.
In addition, the estimation of dietary intake of pollutants such as radioactive materials, heavy metals, dioxins and PCB, and investigational survey of pollutant level in foods are studied. The data obtained in these studies are utilized for the policy ensuring food safety in Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and Food Safety Commission of Japan.
