　　This division consists of two sections engaged in organic chemical research to clarify the efficacy and safety of pharmaceutical substances. In investigations of the toxicity of various chemicals, the division studies structure-activity relationships and interactions between chemicals and biomolecules. It is also involved in the synthesis and determining the property of new drugs using advanced spectroscopic and physico-chemicaal methods.
