既存添加物の安全性評価

食品衛生法では、食品添加物の規格・基準をまとめた書物を作成することを厚生労働大臣に義務付けています。この書物は、食品添加物公定書と呼ばれ、食品添加物の成分規格と製造及び使用に関する規格・基準が収載されています。科学技術の進歩に合わせ、新しい改良された試験方法を導入し、さらに、規格基準の国際調和を達成するために数年ごとに改訂されています。
「Japan’s Specifications and Standards for Food Additives (JSSFA)」は、食品添加物公定書を英訳したものです。

Safety evaluation of existing natural food additives in Japan


These additives had been listed by the Ministry of Health and Welfare on April 16, 1996, and then the items which is not available in the food additive merket or have harmful effects were eliminated fron the list. As of January 30, 2014, the list involves 365 items that are permitted to use as natural food additives in Japan without applying the designation system of which the details are discribed by Ministry of Health, labour and Welfare. Hence, unlike additives that have been evaluated the safety through the designation system, the natural food additives included in the list of existing additives have not been individually checked for safety. Accordingly, the Japanese Diet, etc. have requested the confirmation of their safety.
